Irvine Office Ranks High in Movember Fundraiser

The team at Irvine-based Hanley Investment Group Real Estate Advisers ranked 60 in funds raised out of more than 28,000 teams across the country participating in this year’s Movember, a month-long drive starting Nov. 1 meant to raise funds for men’s cancer research.

The firm’s mustachioed men and their women coworkers raised about $21,000, beating their $20,000 goal. Last year, the company raised $13,000.

“We really pulled together – our mustaches looked even better, and we talked to more people personally about what we were doing,” said president Ed Hanley.

The team’s effort struck a personal chord with Hanley, who lost his father to prostate cancer in 2009.

Hanley Investment Group’s men started the month clean shaven and groomed their whiskers as they grew.

The office’s women also were a great help in pulling in donations and getting the word out, Hanley said. “They were like angels on our shoulders.”

Growing mustaches for Movember didn’t just raise money for a good cause, Hanley said, it also stimulated the office’s sense of camaraderie and competition.

“We’re going to try to do even better next year,” he said.
